Davos 2022: Is globalisation dead?

The 2022 meeting of the World Economic Forum has come to a close, with the war in Ukraine dominating proceedings. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz delivered a blistering attack on Russian leader Vladimir Putin, accusing him of waging a war of "imperialism" in Ukraine and calling for Europe to end its dependence on Russian energy. Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess spoke to our Business Editor Kate Moody on the sidelines of the event. He warned that a "long-lasting" war in Ukraine would be "really negative, mostly for Europe".

The war in Ukraine and global food and energy security dominated discussions throughout the event. The head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, has told FRANCE 24 that it will be very difficult for Europe to move away from Russian gas because of its over-reliance on the country's supplies over the years.
