Tensions run high in DR Congo’s remote Minembwe district

A small, isolated pocket of land has found itself the focus of tensions in DR Congo. On September 28, the installation of a mayor in the district of Minembwe, in the eastern province of South Kivu, sparked an outcry in the country and sent shockwaves all the way to the top. Our correspondents report.

Congo's interior ministry on Monday blamed a Hutu militia called the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), which is active near where ambassador Luca Attanasio, 43 and his bodyguard Vittorio Iacovacci, 30, were shot.
