Kenyan presidential candidate Ruto casts ballot

Kenya's electoral commission has announced William Ruto as winner of the East African country's presidential election amid chaotic scenes, including commission officials disowning the result.

William Ruto has been declared the winner of Kenya's Presidential election, narrowly beating his rival Raila Odinga. Speaking at his victory rally, Ruto said that he would be a leader for all Kenyans, no matter which way they voted in the election.

Kenya's Supreme Court has ruled against candidate Raila Odinga's challenge to the outcome of last month's presidential election. Odinga had alleged electoral fraud after his opponent William Ruto was declared the winner.

Ruto's supporters have praised the court's decision after Raila Odinga claimed he was cheated out of victory in the tight race. Ruto has since taken a conciliatory tone with the opposition as he prepares to take office.

A week after the Supreme Court confirmed his win, William Ruto has been inaugurated as Kenya's fifth president. Tens of thousands of supporters showed up for the ceremony.
