Guinea elections Episode 1: Campaigning turns festive ahead of Sunday’s poll

In tonight's edition: Nigerian police promise to stop using force against protesters who have demonstrated against the violent SARS police unit. And Guinea enters the final stretch of campaigning ahead of this weekend's presidential election. Finally, people living on Senegal's famous Goree Island, a former slave trading centre, have welcomed its recent reopening after seven months without tourism.

The Geneva-based Swiss newspaper Le Temps has issued a denial via one of its editors on Twitter, saying that a poll conducted in its name was not in reality ordered by the paper at all. The results of the bogus poll on the French presidential election showed that Emmanuel Macron would not make it into the second round and that far-right candidate Eric Zemmour would comfortably defeat far-left candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the run-off. In the past, it has accurately assessed the outcome of presidential elections in France and the US. French far-right candidate Eric Zemmour used data assembled by QOTMII indicating that he could reach the second round of France's presidential election and presented it to supporters as a favourable poll.
