How Joel Kachi Benson used VR to produce Daughters of Chibok documentary

Documentary filmmaker, Joel Kachi Benson explains the process behind the award-winning Virtual Reality documentary, Daughters of Chibok. The moving and immersive documentary introduces viewers to the reality of one of the mothers of the kidnapped Chibok girls. Benson talks about the technicalities involves in shooting a VR film and how he has to trust his subjects in the documentary to interpret his directions.

According to 'Billboard,' the tech giant paid for the rights to stream the film on Apple TV+. The documentary follows the pop star after the release of her debut album, ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’. Directed by R.J. Cutler, the film will feature behind-the-scenes footage of Eilish in public and private moments.

On the night of 14–15 April 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State by Boko Haram extremists. Since then, a number of the girls have either been rescued by the Nigerian Army or freed by the extremist terrorist organization. 112 students remain missing though, and Yana Galang, the mother of one of the girls who has been missing since 2014 remains hopeful of someday seeing her daughter again.
