Ethiopia’s young fashion designers are adding modern touches to traditional clothing designs. Hana Bekana formed her design company, Oroliyana design for the exact purposes and her works are already attracting fashion lovers in her country.

Our guest has made history for several reasons. Ruth E Carter is the first woman of colour to receive an Oscar for costume design for the iconic film "Black Panther", where among other things she transformed Chadwick Boseman into the King of Wakanda. She made history again earlier this year when she got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making her the first Black costume designer to receive the distinction and only the second costume designer ever to have a star.

He was exuberant, creative and undeniably eccentric. But he was also fundamentally curious – and loved nothing more than asking questions. Designer and stylist Alber Elbaz worked at Guy Laroche and Saint Laurent before going on to be creative director at Lanvin for 14 years. In January 2021, he launched his latest project, AZ Factory – the fruit of his desire to democratise fashion. He passed away just a few months later, aged 59, after contracting Covid-19. French fashion designer Thierry Mugler, who dressed Beyonce and Lady Gaga, has died aged 73, according to a statement on Mugler's official Facebook page confirming earlier French media reports.
Mugler, who reigned over fashion in the 1980s, was known for his daring theatrical designs featuring broad shoulders and plunging necklines. He dressed the likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga, David Bowie, Diana Ross and Duran Duran - among many others - during his career at the top of the fashion industry.

This year’s Berlin Fashion Week, which was held in one of the city’s former electrical factories mid-March, was largely focused on the work of Jean Gritsfeldt. The Ukrainian fashion designer was unable to attend in person as he could not leave Kyiv due to the war. But activist movement Fashion Revolution managed to recreate key items of his collection from scratch. It was a powerful cross-border collaboration and a message of peace, which Berlin designers Esther Perbandt and Natacha Von Hirschhausen helped to spread.
