With Charleston being the last city to host the first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in the United States in almost a century, area businesses are cashing in.

As the solar eclipse approaches in the U.S., animals in its path may be in for both an early evening and a rude awakening.

Through protective glasses, spectators in front of the White House gaze skyward to watch as the moon eclipses the sun - part of the first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in a century.

On July 27, a total lunar eclipse will rise over the night sky. At 1 hour and 43 minutes, it will be the longest lunar eclipse in the 21st century. Much of Africa, the Middle East and central Asia will be able to see the eclipse.

The next eclipse of a similar length is not due for over 100 years - in 2123.

In Hong Kong, dozens of skywatchers ranging from astronomy enthusiasts with telescopes to families enjoying Father's Day gathered at a waterfront park in east Kowloon to witness the partial solar eclipse. Observers along a narrow band from Africa to Asia can witness a dramatic "ring of fire" annular eclipse, but in Hong Kong only a partial solar eclipse - one that covered nearly nine-tenth of the sun - can be seen.
