The proper produce-washing protocol can be a highly contentious issue. So what's the right way to wash your fruits and veggies? Always wash your hands first to avoid the spread of microbes onto the produce. Use running water to remove dirt from the surface of the produce. A vegetable brush is a useful tool for scrubbing anything with a hard peel or skin. Baking soda will help wash away any pesticide residue. Experts advise against using produce wash, because it may not be safe for consumption.
