The government announced it would carry out food distributions in the poorest neighbourhoods, but according to many residents of Iwaya, they have not received any food aid and are suffering from hunger.

A year ago tensions between different ethnicities in the highlands of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo escalated into full-fledged violence, as communities attack each other in this remote area only reachable by air. There are victims on all sides, from the ethnic Tutsi Banyamulenge to thousands of members of other ethnicities displaced and struggling to survive without humanitarian aid.

The Secretary General of South Africa's ruling ANC party, Ace Magashule, has been charged with multiple counts of fraud, money laundering and corruption. He is accused of embezzling tens of millions of euros during his time as the premier of Free State province. This is one of the biggest corruption scandals ever to involve the party of Nelson Mandela. Our South Africa correspondents visited Free State, one of the poorest provinces in the country, to better understand the allegations against Magashule.

The food delivery company Just Eat is hiring 4,500 of its delivery workers on permanent contracts in France. They had previously been operating as independent contractors, with fewer rights. The move comes after a long campaign by workers in the sector for increased protection. First though, we look at the latest in the economic stimulus talks between President Joe Biden and Republican senators in the United States. The two sides have proposed different packages to help ease the financial consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.
