The Swiss aviator and explorer Bertrand Piccard was the first person to fly around the world on a solar-powered plane. Speaking to FRANCE 24, he discussed the lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic, saying we need to save the planet, but "not in a naive way". The initiator and chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation believes that protecting the environment is fully compatible with profitability. "The goal is to talk to... decision makers and show them that it is in their own interests to do much better and to be more ambitious in the energy policies and environmental targets," he explained.

During a visit in October, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin described the new refugee camp on the Greek island of Samos as a "European model" for the reception of asylum seekers.
