As the Lumières, France's equivalent to the Golden Globes, announce their winners, film critic Lisa Nesselson and Eve Jackson review the selection, which includes a documentary made up of footage shot during the Yellow Vest protests, "The Monopoly of Violence"; as well as "Two of Us," a secret lesbian romance; Maïwenn's ensemble cast dramedy "DNA", plus the animated feature "Josep", about a real-life artist who survived the Spanish Civil War only to end up in a concentration camp in France.

The usual cozy gathering of A-listers at a gala dinner in Beverly Hills has been overshadowed by the coronavirus pandemic and controversy over the lack of Black members in the 87-member HFPA, whose members choose the Golden Globe winners.
