For almost 40 years, the automobile pioneer Ettore Bugatti designed exceptional cars in France's eastern Alsace region. "Nothing is too beautiful; nothing is too expensive" was his motto. At the age of 21, the Italian mechanic's enthusiast was hired by an Alsatian industrialist. In 1909, he set up his own business in Molsheim. Today, a foundation is dedicated to him in the city centre and about 100 models can be seen in the giant automobile museum in nearby Mulhouse. A 1937 Bugatti Type 57S, one of the world’s most valuable and desirable pre-war motor cars, which has been hidden for the past 50 years, is being sold as art of the Bonhams Legend of the Road Sale in London. Offered for the first time ever at auction following the previous owner's death, this rediscovered treasure will be sold alongside other motor cars at Bonhams’ flagship saleroom in London on 19 February 2021, and is expected to fetch millions.
